The Golem
Judah Loew ben Bezalel has been resting in the Old Jewish Cemetery, Prague, for almost four centuries now. But the legends of the miraculous deeds of this extremely learned rabbi, powerful miracle-worker, and creator of the golem live on as an integral part of the mythology of Prague. Brio is pleased to present the most beautiful of them – how he made the golem.
“The peacefully prone figure twitched, its body became erect with the energy its creator had placed in it, and what before had been lifeless was now alive. The golem, without father or mother, was thus born, made only as a copy of a man. Over the golem the rabbi tossed a servant’s cloak that he had brought with him, and gave him the name Joseph.”
